I was seriously considering retiring from my career as a pop musician and pursuing other music-related and creative endeavours. Slowly, but surely, I began to record again and eventually found a new freedom within my voice and an overwhelming sense of excitement about making pop music.
The list of Hedley accolades is long. Some recent highlights include: double platinum certification of the most recent release Storms (2011), current single "Kiss You Inside Out" went #1 at AC, and top 5 at HAC and Pop and is the band's biggest selling single to date.
They were awarded 'Pop Album of the Year' at the 2012 JUNO Awards, had one of the most successful coast-to-coast Canadian arena tours of all time in early 2012, three consecutive double platinum certifications - Hedley (2005), Famous Last Words (2007) and The Show Must Go (2009); over 1,000,000 digital singles sold; four 2012 JUNO Award nominations, 2010 JUNO Award for 'Video of the Year' ("Perfect"); thirteen consecutive #1 videos at Much Music; three Top Ten radio singles from Storms ("Kiss You Inside Out", "Invincible", "One Life"); four Top Ten radio singles from The Show Must Go ("Perfect", "Cha-Ching", "Don't Talk to Strangers", "Hands Up"); and listed as one of the top 100 touring artists in the world of 2010 (Pollstar, October 18, 2010).
Hot off their JUNO award win for Dance Recording of the Year in April 2012, Martina, Dan and Joel released their new album, Bodyparts, in September 2012 through Universal Music Canada. Dragonette is known for their hits Let It Go, Rocket Ship, The Right Woman and Live in This City.
The trio explains what their single Rocket Ship is all about in their own words: "We want to fill you all up on our love. Right to the brim. So we've sent you a Rocket Ship full of the stuff. Feel it from the tip of your toes to the top of your cow lick. Looove and more to come." And Dragonette prompted fans to use the lyrics from their new track Untouchable featured on Bodyparts to create their own version of the song, with the winning entry to be featured as an official b-side to a future single.
