We currently have 65 wineries in Niagara, all producing world-class wines. As you continue your drive along Lakeshore(Niagara Falls Parkway), you'll be driving through the premier agricultural land. Welland Canal For those people who are interested in how large ships move through channel locks, when you reach the Welland Canal, turn left and follow the Canal Parkway. You'll discover the Flight Locks in Thorold, where ocean-going ships and lakers are "raised/lowered" the height of the Niagara Escarpment. On a typical summer day, you'll see a number of ships at various heights as they "climb the mountain". You'll find Niagara-on-the-Lake a charming place to visit for the day.
